90b Walcot Street, Bath, BA1 5BG - Capacity for 660 clubbers
All the nightclubs in Bath suffer from one significant and inescapable
problem. Bath is a city just twelve miles from Bristol, a home to the
largest nightclubs in the south west. Any truly discerning Bath clubber can
hop on the train and find themselves in the centre of a truly exciting
night out. If your ever in need of some people watching time, just go to
the train station on a Friday night and check out the clubbing gear of the
Friday night commuters. Consequently nightclubs in Bath are left to fill
the cheap thrill void. That need to go out, but without the hassle of
actually making a proper effort. Needless to say most night club owners
don't really make this effort either.
With that nice big caveat out of the way its on to explaining why
Cadillacs might even be good. Like most things which look a bit cheap this
nightclub fills a very important hole in many people's
lives the need for a cheap thrill. Forget about waiting
in a queue, unless its stupendously busy you can walk right in. Smile
nicely at the uncommunicative burger eating bouncers, hand over a few quid
and walk into the largest club in Bath. 80's chic drips
from every wall and fitting, you will delight at the mirrored walls, black
ceiling, dodgy carpet. The stainless steel pole work will thrill your very
soul, and the voluminous leather couches will sooth your weary bones.
The sub-basement club has two bars, well stocked with staff and beer,
ensuring prompt service. Toilet facilities are reasonably sized, although
by no means large they are at least not grotty. The dance floor is
mercifully sunken below floor level ensuring proper separation of dancers
from pissed up boozers. A properly sprung wooden floor will provide ample
opportunity for the more outrageous moves, and buttock level mirrors
fulfill the dual function of checking your own grove, and checking the ass
of any nice ladies shaking their stuff in your vicinity. A substantial and
capable sound system compliments the average lighting, complete with the
usual selection of lights that sparkle and shine. On Friday and Saturday
nights the DJ's will be pumping out the usual cheesy mix
of inoffensive music that would make even your Gran get down and boogie. As
long as your not a musical snob, you will be hard pressed not to dance at
least once in the evening, once you have imbibed a couple of beers it may
be hard to remove you from the dancefloor.
The cleontelle and attendance at Cadillac's can be a
little bit variable. On occasional nights you may find the club
inexplicably half empty, but you can usually be gaurenteed reasonable entry
levels, and the place is frequently full. The social mix on all nights is
quite varied. There are occasional unconfirmed sightings of pissed up over
40's women, usually by themselves and occasionally in
groups but always stalking younger pray. The majority of attendance is made
up from the 17-22 crowd of single women and men, with a sprinkling of
squadies, and during university term time a strong mix of
students. The club has a traditional reputation as a source of young
and easy girls, the reality doesn't disagree, but to be
fair attendance extends far beyond the usual meat market fare. The women in
Bath outnumber the men, and this club rarely bucks this trend.
In summary, don't be put off by the dated looks,
dodgy doormen or the fact its located in an out of the way part of the city
centre. This club has been around since the early
1980's, always pulls a decent and decerning crowd of
people through its doors, and is the largest venue in the city. (unless you
count the pub and the club of O'Neals as a single
entity). Refreshingly, whilst all clubs in Bath operate a zero tolerance
policy to drugs, this is one of the few places that actually manages to
successfully enforce the policy.
